Arsenic apparatus is used to detect the presence of arsenic in blood, urine, or tissue specimens1. The apparatus consists of a 100-ml bottle or conical flask closed with a rubber or ground glass stopper through which passes a glass tube2. An electrolytic apparatus is used to generate hydrogen to convert the arsenic into arsine3. The limit test for Arsenic is based on the reaction of arsenic gas with hydrogen ion in the Gutzeit apparatus to form a yellow stain on mercuric chloride paper in the presence of reducing agents like potassium iodide4.
